Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-09-03

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Bonkiv collects, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. We built Bonkiv to serve Canadian businesses, and we handle your information in line with Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector and the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

1. What information we collect

Account information: the email address and password you sign up with (your password itself is stored securely by our authentication provider, Supabase — we never see it in plain text).

Business claim information: when you claim a business listing, we ask you to confirm details already on the public registry record (legal name, registry number, industry) to verify you're authorized to represent that business. We store the outcome of that verification, not a separate copy of your answers.

Content you provide: messages you send to other businesses, opportunity listings, notes, reviews, and any free-text description of your business you enter (for example, when using "Describe Your Business" to find matches).

Usage information: basic technical information needed to operate the service, such as which business is signed in for a given session.

2. Business registry data isn’t personal information

The bulk of the business information shown on Bonkiv — company names, addresses, industry codes — comes from public government sources (Quebec's Registre des entreprises, Statistics Canada's Open Database of Businesses) and describes businesses, not individuals. Where a sole proprietorship or a business name closely identifies an individual, we treat that information with the same care as personal information described in this policy.

3. How we use your information

We use your information to:

• Operate your account and let you claim and manage a business listing • Show your business to potential circular-economy partners, and show you theirs • Generate AI-suggested matches, using the free-text descriptions and registry data you or your business record contain • Deliver messages, quote requests, and notifications between businesses • Maintain the security and integrity of the platform

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.

4. Who we share it with

Supabase (our authentication and database provider) stores your account and business data on our behalf, under their own data protection commitments.

Anthropic (the provider of the Claude AI model) processes free-text business descriptions and match-related content you submit, in order to generate AI-suggested matches and reasons. We send only what's needed for that purpose.

Other businesses on Bonkiv see the information on your business's public profile, and any messages, connection requests, or quote requests you choose to send them.

We don't share your information with any other third party except where required by law, or with your explicit consent.

5. Where your data is stored

Your data is stored and processed by our hosting and infrastructure providers, which may process data outside Quebec or Canada (including in the United States). Where that's the case, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information receives a comparable level of protection, as required under Quebec's Law 25.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your account and business information for as long as your account is active. If you unclaim a business or delete your account, we retain what's needed to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes, and remove the rest within a reasonable time.

7. Cookies and local storage

Bonkiv uses your browser's local storage (not tracking cookies) to keep you signed in between visits and to remember your language preference. This information stays on your device and isn't used for advertising or cross-site tracking.

8. Your rights

Under Quebec's Law 25 and PIPEDA, you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you • Correct inaccurate information • Withdraw consent or ask us to delete your personal information, subject to legal or contractual limits • Ask how an automated decision about you (such as an AI-suggested match) was made, and request a review

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at Bonkiv@proton.me. We'll respond within a reasonable time, generally within 30 days.

9. Privacy officer and complaints

Bonkiv has designated a person responsible for the protection of personal information, reachable at Bonkiv@proton.me. If you're not satisfied with our response, you have the right to file a complaint with the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (CAI) or, for matters under federal law, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

10. Children

Bonkiv is a business-to-business platform and isn't directed at, or intended for use by, individuals under 18.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we'll update the "last updated" date below and, where practical, let you know.
